WHAT: Hundreds of volunteers will be at the Seal Beach (Calif.)
National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, Sept. 24, to remove
invasive weeds and plant native vegetation on National
Public Lands Day (NPLD) sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales
U.S.A., Inc. Each September since 1998, Toyota has worked
with the National Environmental Education & Training
Foundation (NEETF) to mobilize hundreds of participants in
Southern California and thousands of volunteers nationwide
to refurbish and restore America's public lands.

BACKGROUND: Now in its twelfth year, NPLD is the largest annual
volunteer hands-on restoration activity of its kind,
providing more than $10 million in real improvements to
public lands in all 50 states across the nation. Toyota
Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc., is the event's national sponsor
for the seventh consecutive year. The National
Environmental Education & Training Foundation coordinates
all volunteer efforts for NPLD. Across the nation, nine
federal agencies will participate, along with 125 state,
county, and city partners and a host of nonprofit groups,
including the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, 4-H, National
Association of Service Conservation Corps, Wonderful Outdoor
World and Garden Club of America.
