IDOT Traffic Advisory: Two More Dan Ryan Ramps to Open in October

CHICAGO, Oct. 6, 2005 -- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced today that two ramps are scheduled to open over the next two weeks on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94). The new 47th Street southbound entrance ramp and the 55th Street (Garfield Boulevard) northbound exit ramp will both open later this month. During this time, traffic will be reduced to one lane on Wells Street and Wentworth Avenue, with no parking permitted as IDOT's "Road Doctors" make improvements to the frontage roads.

IDOT is announcing the following schedule on the northbound Dan Ryan (weather permitting):

-- On Monday, October 17, the 47th Street southbound entrance ramp will
      open to traffic.

-- At this time Wells Street will be reduced to one lane from 47th
to 51st Streets, and no parking will be allowed.

-- On Friday, October 21, the 55th Street (Garfield Boulevard) northbound
      exit ramp will open.

-- Wentworth Avenue will be reduced to one lane from 55th to 59th
Streets, and no parking will be allowed.

This work is part of the $600 million Dan Ryan Expressway reconstruction project. IDOT is in the midst of a four-year reconstruction project on the Dan Ryan from 31st Street to 95th Street. The project has been cited as one of the most environmentally friendly construction projects in the nation. The improved Dan Ryan will include an additional lane in each direction, a reconfigured Skyway interchange and upgrades to the local access roads that run parallel to the expressway. The project goals include improving safety for motorists, reducing commuting time on the city's busiest expressway and creating jobs.
