City CarShare Adds MINI Cooper Convertibles And Unveils Fresh New Look
MINI Displayed Alongside Life-size Styrofoam
Hummer At Justin Herman Plaza, 8:00am-2:00pm on Tuesday, October 11
San Francisco (October 11, 2005) City CarShare,
the Bay Area's leading car-sharing service, today
added brand new MINI Cooper convertibles to its
fleet of cars, wagons, hybrids and trucks.
The MINIs will be on display today at Justin
Herman Plaza from 8:00am-2:00pm alongside a
life-size model of a Hummer that was constructed
entirely from Styrofoam scavenged from the trash
by SF Recycling & Disposals Artist In Residence,
Andrew Junge. The Hummer is there as a contrast
to City CarShares fuel-efficient fleet and the
gas savings inherent to car-sharing.
City CarShare will also unveil a new logo made up
of directional arrows that morph into the letters
CCS, the organizations initials. The new logo, a
redesigned Web site, and a new motto Easy Going,
reflect the organizations advances in providing
Bay Area residents with convenient, affordable, and fun transportation options.
Bay Area residents are invited to stop by Justin
Herman Plaza on Tuesday, October 11 from 8am to
2pm to see City CarShares new MINIS and Styrofoam
Hummer. City CarShare staff and volunteers will
be on hand to provide information about
car-sharing and to sign-up new members. Local
Artist Andrew Junge will also be on site at
Justin Herman Plaza to answer questions about his
sculpture and the environmental impact of the
Hummer H1 which gets only 10 13 miles-per-gallon.
As City CarShare grows its fleet, locations, and
membership, the organization is actually
shrinking the impact of automobiles on the Bay
Area. Car-sharing has proven to help reduce automobile and gas use.
City CarShare today has over 50 Bay Area
locations in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley.
New cars and locations are added monthly as part
of City CarShares program of providing Bay Area
residents with the most neighborhood locations
and the best selection of vehicles. City CarShare
is used by more than 4,300 Bay Area residents who
rely on their low-cost and easy access to cars.
City CarShare is perfect for people who want to
pick-up and go whenever they need a car without
worrying about gas prices, finding a parking
space or dealing with a mechanic, said Rick
Hutchinson, City CarShares CEO. Because
insurance, gas and reserved parking are always
included not to mention cleaning and maintenance
City CarShare members prefer our service to
owning a car, especially because they can select
from a range of cars available in their
neighborhood including a stylish new MINI Cooper
convertible to a utilitarian Toyota Tacoma Truck.
Last-minute or advance reservations can be made
online or by phone for any length of time from
half-an-hour to half-a-day or more. Members can
immediately access their vehicle at their
neighborhood location without further paperwork
or delay. The MINI convertibles will rent for
$6/hour and 44cents/mile. All other City CarShare
vehicles rent for $4/hour and 44cents/mile.
City CarShare also has over 100 businesses that
are members and is expanding its successful
business services program, where small and large
businesses alike are finding that car-sharing has
proved cheaper and easier than owning and maintaining private company vehicles.
