Highway Safety Leaders Demo Measures For Safe Thanksgiving Travel

National Share the Road Safety Tour Visits Atlanta to Save Lives
                           on Georgia Highways

On a typical day as many as 347,000 vehicles travel I-285 through Atlanta.

Most automobile drivers are not aware of what they can do to avoid accidents

                          with tractor-trailers.

Who: The American Trucking Associations (ATA), the Georgia Motor
Carrier Compliance Division, Governor's Office of Highway
Safety -- Georgia, the Georgia State Patrol, AAA Auto Club
South, and the Georgia Motor Trucking Association

What: A demonstration of highway safety measures for saving lives
during Thanksgiving travel will be conducted for local news
media, including "ride-alongs" in tractor-trailers, as part
of the national Share the Road safety tour visiting Atlanta,
               GA.

  When: Tuesday, November 22, 2005, 10:00 AM

Where: Douglas County Inspection Station, I-20 Eastbound, Mile
Marker 43, Douglasville, GA (see driving directions below.)

Summary: Professional truck drivers with millions of miles of
accident-free driving, ATA, law enforcement officials, AAA
Auto Club South, and others, will demonstrate safety measures
critical to saving lives on Georgia highways during the
Thanksgiving holiday. A static demonstration with simulated
highway lanes will show how cars and trucks get into
accidents. A professional truck driver will provide truck
ride-alongs for news reporters and photographers, providing
tips on holiday travel, blind spots, driving in construction
zones, and stopping and following distances.

This safety advice is critical for Atlanta drivers because:

               * Around three quarters of all truck-involved fatalities are
inadvertently initiated by car drivers (Federal Motor
                 Carrier Safety Administration).

               * 35% of all truck-involved highway fatalities occur in a
truck's blind spots (Federal Motor Carrier Safety
                 Administration).

               * Watching this demonstration will help reduce accidents and
                 save lives.

Directions: 12 Miles West of Downtown Atlanta. From Atlanta take I-20
west to Exit 41. Reenter I-20 going west and go to Weigh
               Station at Mile Marker 43.
