Mercedes CLS Selling Better Than Expected

By eMercedesBenz.com

Mercedes has put out a press release today bragging of the superiority of the CLS when compared to any other vehicle in its class, and most other vehicles for that matter. All right, so the statement above may be a small exaggeration. They did however put out a press release today detailing the CLS' sales figures since its release a little over a year ago. To date, the CLS has sold over 50,000 units since its inception in October of 2004. Of the 50,000 vehicles sold, the CLS' top market is here in the U.S., with 13,600 units being delivered to customers since its American release in January of this year. Germany is the CLS' second largest market, accounting for 20% of all units sold. As should be no surprise, the most popular engine variant for the CLS is the CLS 500 model, which accounts for 40% of all vehicles sold. The CLS 500 is followed by the CLS 350 model, and bringing up the rear, the CLS 320 CDI, which was launched in May of 2005. For more info on the CLS' sales figures, you can check out the full press release below. OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE High Demand for Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Stuttgart, Dec 16, 2005 The Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class is performing extremely well a little over one year after its market debut: More than 50,000 units of the four-door coupe have been delivered worldwide since the vehicle’s sales launch on October 2, 2004. The CLS is based on a unique vehicle concept that for the first time combines the elegance and dynamism of a coupe with the comfort and practicality of a sedan. This one-of-a- kind synthesis in the CLS-Class provides a clear additional value in comparison to other coupes. “The positive response to the CLS-Class underscores our role as a trendsetter in the development of new vehicle concepts and clearly demonstrates the success of the Mercedes- Benz product strategy,” says Dr. Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President of the Mercedes Car Group, responsible for Sales and Marketing. Demand for the four-door coupe is particularly high in the U.S., where 13,600 customers have opted to purchase the CLS since the model was launched there in January 2005. The second largest market for the CLS is Germany, which accounts for more than 20 percent of global sales. The most popular engine variant of the CLS-Class is the CLS 500, which is the choice of more than 40 percent of all customers. The second most popular variant is the CLS 350, followed by the high performing diesel variant CLS 320 CDI which was launched in May 2005.
