North American International Auto Show Encourages Charity Preview Attendees to Plan Ahead for Parking

Star-studded event expected to showcase celebrity surprise guests

DETROIT, Jan. 11 -- The 2006 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is strongly encouraging people attending the black-tie Charity Preview on Friday, Jan. 13, to arrive early for parking convenience.

"The NAIAS and the City of Detroit are well-prepared for the night, but we encourage attendees to head downtown early," said NAIAS 2006 senior co-chairman Richard Genthe. "It's a great night to rub shoulders with metro Detroit's VIPS as well as surprise guest, so we want to make sure things run as smoothly as possible."

The Millennium Garage, on Congress between First and Second streets is the recommended parking garage for individuals self-parking for the event. Drivers dropping guests off at Cobo Center must be properly credentialed through NAIAS. Any last minute calls for credentials should be directed to the NAIAS offices at 248-283-5116. Access to Cobo Center parking will be closed to non-credentialed vehicles beginning at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13th.

Each year, the Charity Preview and the NAIAS host many local, national and worldwide celebrities. In the past, celebrities like Kevin Bacon, Kid Rock, Celine Dion, Jay Leno, Veronica Webb, Tony Danza, and Jeff Daniels have attended the NAIAS. This year's potential cache of stars is increased by the ever-growing rumors of guests scheduled to appear at Super Bowl parties. Anyone from Will Smith to Jimmy Kimmel could stop by for a sneak peek of the NAIAS.

Beneficiaries of the 2006 Charity Preview include: Barat Child and Family Services; Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan; Boys Hope-Girls Hope of Detroit; The Children's Center; Children's Homes of Judson Center; Children's Services of Northeast Guidance Center Assistance League; The Detroit Institute for Children; ThinkDetroit PAL (Police Athletic League); Easter Seals -- Michigan; March of Dimes; and the DADA Charitable Foundation Fund of the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan.

NAIAS 2006 will be open to the public from Saturday, Jan. 14, through Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 from 9 a.m. -- 10 p.m. and Sunday Jan. 22, from 9 a.m. -- 7 p.m. Admittance ends one hour prior to show closing.

NAIAS 2006 Official Dates

Press Preview Days will be held Sunday, Jan. 8, through Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006. Industry Preview Days will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006. The Charity Preview will be held Friday evening, Jan. 13, 2006. The public is encouraged to call 888-838-7500 to be placed on a wait list for tickets to the 2006 Charity Preview. Public Days are Saturday, Jan. 14, through Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006.
