Cummins Westport Launches BGI Engine Manufacturing in India

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--Jan. 19, 2006--Cummins Westport Inc. (CWI) and Cummins India Limited (CIL) today announced the successful limited production launch of CWI's B Gas International (BGI) natural gas engine in India. Manufacturing takes place at CIL's modern Daman facility in Western India.

The BGI engine was unveiled at the Auto Expo in New Delhi on January 16, 2006. The locally-manufactured BGI natural gas engine will be supplied to OEM's in India such as Tata Motors, and is now in service in the "Starbus" on New Delhi roads today.

"Local manufacturing of our lean-burn, spark-ignited BGI engine by CIL is vital to any growth in India," said Guan Saw, President of Cummins Westport Inc. The availability of a low cost locally manufactured BGI engine will enable CIL to leverage their long-term relationships with India's largest OEM's, both in the domestic Indian market and the target export markets of these OEM's."

With ratings from 150-230 horsepower, the B Gas International lean burn spark-ignited natural gas engine features many of the proven components and features of the B Gas Plus.
