Toyota Expected to Expand North American Capacity

Washington DC April 3, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that Toyota's North American planning group believes it will need an additional plant in North America to reach its sales goals in 2010 and beyond, reports Automotive News.

The automaker expects the U.S. vehicle market to explode by 2010 with 64 million Generation Y-ers hitting the market, and thus needs to expand capacity in order to meet demand. "These kids are getting new cars, not used cars," said Steve Sturm, VP of North America planning for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. "More cars are being added to the family fleet.

The immigrant population is growing and buying cars." Location possibilities for the new plant include Mexico, which would produce the Yaris economy car.
