2007-Compliant Diesel Technology Makes Its Washington Debut with Demonstrations, Tours and an EPA Validation

WASHINGTON--May 1, 20060, 2006--International Truck and Engine Corporation's engine technology for meeting 2007 diesel emissions standards - engineered into the company's new, fuel-efficient International(R) ProStar(TM) Class 8 truck - made its Washington debut with Congressional and U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials this week.

In a ceremony at EPA headquarters, Administrator Stephen L. Johnson credited engine manufacturers such as International (the first company to achieve the agency's certification to 2007 particulate matter and hydrocarbon levels) with a breakthrough in performance and clean-air controls.

The ProStar truck, with International(R) Green Diesel Technology(R) and ultra-low-sulfur fuel, was also featured at a technology exhibit and ride-n-drive event sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers at RFK Stadium, and in showings for members of Congress on Capitol Hill.

"Our company is not only ready to roll with trucks and school buses fully compliant with the new rule; we are excited about the long-term impact of this achievement," said Patrick Charbonneau, vice president, government relations, International Truck and Engine Corporation. "These new no-smoke, no-smell trucks and buses will have great performance, the reliability and durability that customers expect of diesel -- and they will contribute to air quality improvement across the nation. We believe that the 2007 clean diesel engines, trucks and school buses are going to help change the way people see diesel."

The International ProStar is the result of five years and $300 million in development, its aerodynamic shape catapults International further ahead of its competition when it comes to fuel economy and performance. The reduced aerodynamic drag means International ProStar customers save more than 4.7 percent in fuel costs.

The company's new, 2007-compliant International(R) MaxxForce(TM) 11 and MaxxForce(TM) 13 engines will be available in the ProStar beginning in October 2007. These engines are the first to be launched through International's agreement with German truck maker MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG.
