NASCAR Performance and the Car Care Council Launch Campaign to Address Rising Fuel Costs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - June 28, 2006 - The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) and its NASCAR Performance Automotive Licensing Program are joining forces with the Car Care Council to launch the "Be an Angel, Maintain Your Car and Save Some Gas" consumer education campaign.

The campaign, intended as a call to action to consumers, encourages more regular vehicle maintenance as the best way to get better fuel economy and beat high gas prices. NASCAR has produced a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) that will run during NASCAR programming throughout the month of July, in addition to being distributed to local TV stations across the country.

The PSA features NASCAR drivers Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne and Scott Wimmer, as well as NASCAR crew chiefs Doug Reichert, Kenny Francis and Chris Carrier offering up tips for motorists on how to maximize fuel efficiency by performing simple car maintenance.

The initiative will complement the consumer education efforts of the aftermarket industry's "Be Car Care Aware" campaign and the fall release of its new Car Care Guide - a first-of-its-kind reference guide for motorists which covers typical service occasions and major components, systems and parts with service interval recommendations, a maintenance log and more.

"The opportunity to help consumers with their car care needs has never been more significant," said Odis Lloyd, managing director, NASCAR's Automotive Licensing division. "By using NASCAR's extensive media assets and partnering with our manufacturing and installer partners, we can help consumers combat rising fuel costs by getting them the necessary vehicle repair information they need to get better fuel economy."

"Unfortunately higher gas prices are here to stay, but fortunately consumers can take greater control of how much gas their vehicles use by performing simple and inexpensive maintenance," said Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council.

To round out the "Be an Angel, Maintain Your Car and Save Some Gas" campaign, the NASCAR Automotive Licensing division will also promote the initiative through its soon-to-launch "NASCAR Angels" television show. In the show, which will feature a group of technicians repairing vehicles for needy individuals, Car Care Guides will be highlighted and distributed to all show participants. The Car Care Council will distribute the PSA, which will have a print version as well, through its online media kit.
