Pressure Washer Volunteers Clean Lincoln Memorial With Help From Goodyear
WASHINGTON, D.C. Tuesday, August 22, 2006 -- between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Volunteers from across America will clean the Lincoln Memorial platform and steps, using high-pressure hose systems and cleaning methods to remove a long-time buildup of dirt and gum from the surfaces. As many as eight teams of professional contractors from seven states are donating their time to the project.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has donated a special anti-pooling hose with a spiral groove for the project to allow fluids and dirt to flow under the hose and drain toward a reclaim system, designed to protect the nearby Potomac River and meet Clean Water Act requirements.
