SYDNEY, Australia, Aug. 28, 2006 -- Cannonball Run, the world's largest car rally will arrive DOWNUNDER in May 2007 to unite car enthusiasts and racing fanatics from around the world. Bringing the event Down Under is Cannonball World Events who are a London based company run by the infamous Tim Porter a long-time, masterful driver and car aficionado. Tim "Maverick" Porter has become known throughout Europe as one of the driving world's most notorious bad boys and the man behind the revival of the renowned Cannonball events. The company has offices in California, Atlanta, London, Moscow and now the Gold Coast.

The Australian event, run by Steve Simmons and sponsored by Kamikaze Kites of Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast will commence on May 20th, 2007 when 75 cars will start from Brisbane in a 4000 kilometre driving adventure. The object of the event is to obtain an average speed of 100kph over the entire course, while stopping overnight in various cities to party along the way.

"Safety is paramount to this event and in the previous 6 years and 8 major events held in Europe we have never had a serious accident and we believe this is due to the way we police our own event with very strict rules," said Tim Porter, Managing Director of Cannonball Run World Events. "Drivers must complete the course with an average speed at or below the national speed limit rather than racing to be the first car to arrive."

The event is open to all licensed drivers, over the age of 21, for an entry fee of $10,000 Australian Dollars. The fee covers all accommodations, meals and parties during the event. Our own film crew will capture the event making this experience available to everyone on DVD. "This event is based on the success of our Cannonball Run Europe events which embody the spirit of the original U.S. Cannonball Run event and the 1981 movie," said Porter.

All 75 cars and their drivers will meet in Brisbane and travel on the first stage of their journey while negotiating through checkpoints along the course. A target time has been set for each stage (achievable without breaking the speed limits) and all you have to do is match it. The victorious team will arrive on the Gold Coast on May 25th to take the title and a free entry to defend their crown in the world title in America in July 2007. The Great American Run is the worlds biggest ever Cannonball with 400 cars completing a 3000 mile coast to coast event in North America.

Six years and eight major events later, Porter has franchised his rallies in the UK, Europe, Russia and now here on the Gold Coast. Tim is here on the Gold Coast until the 1st of September and is available for radio and press interviews on (07) 55925171 or 0411 150 139 or international mobile 0011-44- 7887-620529.
