Avis Is Recognized for 'Trying Harder' to Support Travelers With Disabilities

Avis Wins the 2006 Title III Public Accommodations Award from the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Sept. 11 -- Avis Rent A Car System, LLC today announced it has received the Title III Public Accommodations Award from the Mayor's Office of New York City. The award is part of New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's second annual Mayoral Advocacy Awards, at which companies are recognized for doing exceptional work in supporting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Ron Nelson, chairman and CEO of Avis Budget Group, Inc., parent company of Avis, accepted the award from Mayor Bloomberg at a ceremony at Gracie Mansion.

Avis received the award for introducing its "Avis Access" program, which provides accessible rental car services for drivers and passengers with disabilities. Avis was also recognized for its ongoing sponsorship of the Achilles Track Club, a national organization dedicated to helping train and support runners with disabilities.

"The passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act was a civil rights milestone," said Mayor Bloomberg. "For more than 50,000,000 Americans living with a disability, some aspects of daily life are still challenging. New York City is working to break down barriers that keep people with disabilities from fully participating in City life. We honor Avis for making a difference and making the City more accessible for all."

"We are extremely proud to receive this important recognition for our Avis Access program," said Ron Nelson. "Avis is committed to leading the rental car industry in supporting travelers with disabilities and making travel more accessible."

Avis Access was introduced in 2004 as the most comprehensive suite of products in the car rental industry, aimed at making travel more accessible for everyone. Available products include transfer boards, spinner knobs, hand-controls, mobility scooters and panoramic mirrors. All Avis Access products, except mobility scooters, are available free of charge with all Avis car rentals.
