KIDS PHOTOS BECOME GREETING CARDS
FOR SALVATION ARMY IN TWO CITIES
By Marty Bernstein

General Motors and Salvation Army chapters in Orlando, Florida and Raleigh, North Carolina have introduced “My Holiday Wish” greeting cards created by local children in the two cities. In October, Linda Solomon, award-winning photojournalist and former television correspondent for Good Morning America, led photography workshops with children living in homeless centers in Orlando and Raleigh.

“The children were taught photographic techniques and then asked to go out on assignment and “capture their Holiday Wish” said Solomon. Continuing, “These children captured images of wishes for … a good education, to have good friends, a home for our family, to become a artist and to have peace – just to name a few”

Ed Welburn, vice president, GM Global Design, and Linda Solomon through judging the many photos taken by the children, selected the photo images to be put on the “My Holiday Wish” greeting cards. Each child that participated in the program will have a photo image on the greeting cards.

Through General Motors sponsorship of this program, “My Holiday Wish”, the children’s images have been transformed into greeting cards to be sold through the Salvation Army in both cities with 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the “My Holiday Wish” greeting cards will benefit many homeless women and children at the local center.

The Salvation Army of Raleigh “My Holiday Wish” greeting cards can be purchased online at www.keepthebellringing.org or by calling 919-834-6733. Photos taken by the children of the Orlando Salvation Army shelter can be purchased online at www.salvationarmyorlando.org or by calling 407-423-8581. A set of “My Holiday Wish” greeting cards will cost between $25-35 and will include cards from the 14 children. All proceeds for the “My Holiday Wish” cards will go to the Salvation Army women and children’s centers in either city.
