Evenflo Statement in Response to Consumer Reports Retraction

VANDALIA, Ohio, Jan. 18, 2007 -- At Evenflo, safety is our number one priority, and we are very concerned that parents and consumers are potentially confused about the safety of infant car seats.

Following the recent Consumer Reports story on infant car seats we immediately re-tested our Discovery infant seat internally -- as well as through an independent laboratory -- to re-validate that Discovery meets federal safety standards.

In the last week we conducted 17 tests of the Discovery infant seat purchased randomly at retailers around the US. Of these tests, seven were conducted in our internal facilities and 10 were conducted by an independent lab.

In every one of these 17 tests -- conducted in strict compliance with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) testing standards -- the Discovery infant seat met or exceeded all NHTSA safety standards.

The Discovery has been tested nearly 220 times in the last two years -- by NHTSA, Evenflo internal labs and independent facilities -- and has met or exceeded federal standards in every single test.

We are absolutely confident in the safety of the Evenflo Discovery infant seat, and we are certain it meets or exceeds all federal government standards for safety.

We pledge to work closely with Consumer Reports and with NHTSA on this matter to ensure the public has a complete understanding of the safety profile of the Discovery seat.

We are dedicated to help parents understand these complex issues, we have set up a toll free 800-233-5921 and a dedicated e-mail address -- carseats@evenflo.com -- so that parents and consumers can call and get complete information about Discovery and all Evenflo products.
