F-15 Strike Eagle
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA - June 16, 2007: The sound of big throaty engines
literally filled the Sacramento Valley air last weekend, when the City of
Rancho Cordova and Mather Airport (the former Mather Air Force Base) hosted
its 2nd annual California Capital Airshow.
Mather Field, Rancho
Cordova
The two-day event appeared to be a model showcase for organization and
cooperation...offering everything from perfect weather to convenient
traffic and transportation conditions to a thrill-packed agenda of live
in-air performances and engrossing static on-ground exhibits.
Thunderbird F-16
The show’s featured attraction was the U.S. Air Force
Thunderbirds, one of “our” crack air demonstration teams,
that’s comprised of eight pilots, four support officers, nearly 120
enlisted people, and four civilians. Their portion of the show was
fan-flying-tastic. It was definitely a proud-to-be-an-American moment.
F-22 Raptor
Equally rousing were the in-air demonstrations of the F-15 Strike Eagle
and the incomparable F-22 Raptor, our latest air-superiority weapon, as
well as extra-added surprise fly-overs by a B-2 Stealth Bomber (on
Saturday) and a U-2 Spy Plane (on Sunday).
Gene Soucy, "Mr.
Airshow"
For those spectators hungry for death-defying, stupefying aerobatic
action, their appetites were satiated by the thrilling performances of Gene
Soucy, Teresa Stokes, Nikolay Timofeev, Greg Poe, and Northern
California’s own Julie Clark.
