CarMax opens first Superstore in Gastonia, NC

RICHMOND, Va. (October 5, 2007) – CarMax, Inc., , the nation’s largest retailer of used cars, officially opened its new store in Gastonia, North Carolina today. The new CarMax superstore is located at 1600 Remount Road in Gastonia. The store is 45,890 square-feet, employs more than 110 associates, and stocks 300 to 400 vehicles of nearly every make and model. This is the first CarMax store in Gastonia.

More than 200 local dignitaries and CarMax associates attended a grand opening preview event at the superstore today. The event included a “Trivia Quest�?? game for charity featuring local radio personalities. CarMax donates $1,000 to each participant’s charity, and the winner’s charity receives an additional $1,000. The Trivia Quest participants included Romeo, DJ from WNKS-FM on 95.1 The Kiss, Derek James, morning DJ from WNKS-FM on 104.7, and Chris Allen, morning DJ from WSOC-FM on 103.7.

CarMax opened its first store in Richmond, Virginia more than 14 years ago after the company surveyed thousands of consumers to find out what they liked and disliked about car shopping. CarMax was designed according to the survey responses, giving consumers what they asked for:
