AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 23 -- In an effort to bring the issue of efficient fuel technologies to more than 14,000 women expected to attend the 2007 event, Audi of America today announced its participation in the nation's leading conference on women. The Women's Conference in Long Beach, California, which is hosted by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver, is an annual non-partisan event. This year's theme, "Remarkable Lives. Remarkable Legacies. What's Yours?" encourages women worldwide to think about their own legacies. 2007 featured speakers will include former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan, financial bestseller author David Bach, actress Kirstie Alley, singer Joan Baez, actress and author Jamie Lee Curtis, fashion designer Diane von Fuerstenberg, Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Thomas Friedman, Oprah magazine columnist Dr. Martha Beck and award-winning Special Olympic athlete Loretta Claiborne among others.

Audi will host the "Living Green" panel discussion, which is designed to inspire attendees to think about their individual environmental legacy and provides an overview of technologies and tools to help participants reduce their own carbon footprint. Audi will also showcase the new Audi Q7 3.0 TDI with ultra-low emission system, the cleanest diesel engine in the world.

"The Women's Conference is an incredible opportunity for Audi to educate women on the impact their automobile decisions have on the environment," said Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president in charge of Audi of America. "Women are powerful consumers and decision-makers in their households -- thus assuming a double responsibility to make sustainable choices. The conference allows us to showcase our pioneering technologies and fuel-reducing solutions while providing a platform for women to learn how they can individually make a difference."

Conference attendees will be able to attend a "Living Green" panel discussion hosted by Dr. Hackenberg-Wiedl, Head of Audi Diesel Powertrain Product Management, and hear firsthand how individual driving behavior can impact fuel consumption by 30 percent. She will also highlight the integrated fuel-reduction strategy of Audi including the high-tech TDI engines with ultra-low emission system which is also displayed at the Audi booth on the main floor.

"The Women's Conference seeks to showcase companies and individuals that are building remarkable legacies," said California First Lady Maria Shriver. "Through its efforts to inspire and empower women to live greener, more sustainable lifestyles, Audi is creating a remarkable 'green' legacy for itself -- a legacy that I admire and applaud."

"Fuel efficient vehicles and low emissions is an industry responsibility and Audi is proud to be at the forefront with our TDI technology," said Dr. Petra Hackenberg-Wiedl. "According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the US could save 1.4 million barrels of crude oil every day if just one third of all passenger cars and light-duty commercial vehicles were equipped with up-to-date diesel engines. This means that TDI can play an important role in a rapid reduction of CO2 emission. The TDI with ultra low emission system is our latest contribution."

As early as next year, Audi will be putting the cleanest diesel engine in the world into production in the US: the 3.0 TDI with ultra low emission system will initially be available for the Audi Q7. The 3.0 TDI fulfills the toughest emission standard in the world -- the LEV II Bin 5 classification, which is operative in the US states of California, New York, Massachusetts, Maine and Vermont. This high-tech diesel from Audi also already complies with the emission limits that are due to come into force in Europe from 2014.

Apart from the cleanest diesel in the world, Audi is tackling the issue of efficiency with all its resources -- efficient drive systems, new technologies, new drive concepts as well as supporting research of biofuels and traffic management. In the state of California, Audi supports the Governmental initiative 'Clean Air, Viable Planet' in cooperation with the Universities of Standford, Berkely and Riverside aiming to create intelligent traffic solutions and navigation systems. By the year 2012, Audi will reduce the CO2 emissions from its models by around 20 percent.
