AUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 5 -- The all-new 2009 Dodge Journey crossover offers BorgWarner's award-winning Interactive Torque Management (ITM 3e(TM)) system as an option for drivers who value performance, fuel economy and stability.

Based on Chrysler's global D-segment platform, the Dodge Journey blends the capability of a sport-utility vehicle with the overall efficiency of a passenger car into a "right-sized" package available with best-in-class fuel economy and best-in-class starting price.

In addition to providing the all-wheel drive coupling in the Dodge Journey SXT AWD and Journey R/T AWD, BorgWarner supplies the electronics, software controls and vehicle integration support. BorgWarner's vehicle integration capabilities are core competencies that provide automakers like Chrysler LLC with outstanding vehicle performance including noticeably improved traction, increased stability, excellent handling and a confidence-inspiring driving experience.

"By working closely with Chrysler engineers to ensure premium vehicle functionality, BorgWarner system integrators perfectly blend AWD hardware and controls to aid in creating an efficient, yet robust driveline," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO. "As a global leader in advanced all-wheel drive technology, we are pleased the ITM 3e(TM) system is an integral part of Dodge Journey's capability."

The ITM 3e(TM) system exercises sophisticated controls and algorithms to sense slip, converting the front-wheel-drive-based platform to all-wheel drive within milliseconds. By optimally using grip at both front and rear wheels, the system also augments vehicle handling and traction. At highway speeds, it automatically reduces power transfer to the rear wheels, which improves fuel economy versus other all-wheel drive systems. In addition, the ITM 3e(TM) system is designed to work in cooperation with other vehicle systems like anti-lock brakes and electronic stability programs to further enhance traction and stability.

The ITM 3e(TM) system is one of the latest interactive front-wheel drive AWD technologies available as part of BorgWarner's growing iTrac(TM) torque management systems portfolio, a full-line of active torque management devices focused on the needs of the expanding front-wheel drive/all-wheel drive market.
