Shanghai, October 20, 2008: (Gasgoo.com) According to its global strategy, Shanghai GM will upgrade its Buick car models, among others, by using the European and American technologies and global platforms, said sina.com today.

In GM's global platform plan and brand strategy, Opel's second-generation DeIta II platform is used for making compact cars and the Epsilon II platform for mid-class cars, with the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Insignia as their first new models respectively. And then they will be sold worldwide as GM's different sub-brands.

Shanghai GM will introduce the Chevrolet Cruze on the Delta II platform to develop its new-generation Buick Excelle, and introduce the Opel Insignia on the Epsilon II platform to make longer-wheelbased models as the updated versions of the Buick Regal and LaCrosse.

The new car model list recently released by China's auto industry regulator includes Shanghai GM's two models, code-named SGM7205 and SGM7241, which are believed to be the new Regal and new LaCrosse. The two new twin models are expected to capture larger market share for Shanghai GM in China's auto market.

The Buick Regal's new version will share the Epsilon II platform with LaCrosse, but will have slightly higher market orientation than the latter. The Opel Insignia, as a new Regal with the larger size, higher configurations, stronger power and more Chinese elements, will hit the China market by the end of this year.
