Washington DC February 24, 2009; The AIADA newsletter reported that the Detroit News reported yesterday that a majority of President Obama's new Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry and many of their aides drive "imports" instead of "American" vehicles.

AIADA president Cody Lusk asks: When did what you drive become a requirement for government service? When did one's car determine their ability to serve our government properly or make important decisions regarding the economics of our nation? Do we require the employees of the Agriculture Department to wear only textiles grown by our nation's farmers? No we don't – nor should we.

Do the folks worried about what is parked in the garages of Obama's appointees know that more than 50 percent of all the "import" cars sold in the United States each year are made in North America? Automobile dealers and manufacturers of all makes provide this country with an astounding number of jobs and tax revenue.

It is time we turn our focus to the important issues facing our country and industry. Too much is at risk to get bogged down rehashing frivolous issues about what the new auto task force drives.
