SPARKFORD, United Kingdom – February 26, 2009: In 2008 the Museum hosted its First Rare Breeds Car Show, and such was its success, that it has been decided to make it an annual event. The 2nd show this year, we hope will be even bigger and better!

To everyone who attended last year, we want to express our sincere thanks for your help in making our first rare breeds car show such a success, and to thank all of you who filled in our comment sheets on the day. We have listened to you and hopefully improved things for this year. With this in mind, as well as the competitions which we held last year, we are also arranging for breakfasts to be served in the Museum restaurant from 8.a.m. until 10a.m. Lunches will also be served for those still hungry after one of our restaurant’s enormous “fry-ups” and by popular demand we will be holding the first Haynes “Cream Tea Run” in the afternoon which will take those entrants who wish to take part, on an hour long run, out of the museum along the local roads, around Cadbury Castle, the legendary home of King Arthur. On returning to the Museum there will be a parade on the museum test track and then the prize giving and an optional “cream tea”, with fresh, home-made scones and local Cornish cream!

We are hoping that you will all want to come back again this year and hopefully bring friends with you. We would be pleased if you could pass on this information to your members and hopefully decide to enter either as individuals, or as a group.

We are sure that this 2nd show will be an enormous success and will give ‘Rare Breeds’ clubs and individuals the opportunity to show off their prized vehicles.

We are looking for the rarer cars, i.e., cars which were produced in small numbers, specialist vehicle clubs, for example, emergency services, GPO vehicles etc., Specialist coachbuilders, micro cars and the rarer marques of kit cars. We discovered last year that it is extremely hard to define “rare” and with this in mind and again acting on the several comments received, we would like to ask all entrants if they could prepare a brief account of “why their particular car is rare” and to have this on display in their windscreen on the day. This will help other entrants and members of the public know why that particular car is “rare”.

The programme for the day, although subject to change slightly will be as follows:-

  • 8 a.m. - 10.a.m. - Arrive on site. (and don’t forget the breakfast!)
  • 11.a.m. - Competitions start (see entry form for details)
  • 11:30a.m. - Display by 500 Club – Mini Cooper display team.
  • 2.p.m. - “The Cream Tea Run” leaves the Museum.
  • Further display by the 500 Club –Cooper race cars for those not taking part in the run.
  • 3.p.m. - Return of the “Cream Tea Run” – followed by Museum parade on the test track
  • 3:30 – 4p.m. - Prize giving and Cream Teas served in the Camelot suite

Hopefully this year there will also be a larger variety of auto jumble and trade stands, and of course - the chance to look around the Museum.

We do hope that you will join us this year and look forward to hearing from you with the completed entry form.
