Chrysler LLC, Dodge, KaBOOM! and the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley in Pacoima, Calif., Team Up with Dodge Ram Challenge Winner to Build New Child-Designed Playground in One Day
What: The more than 1,100 children who attend the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley are getting a great new place to play thanks to the efforts of Robert Nowaczyk, a Los Angeles County firefighter and winner of the Dodge Ram Challenge. Nowaczyk will join more than 200 volunteers from The Chrysler Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club, Fireman's Brew, organizers from KaBOOM! and residents of the local community to assemble a new playground at the Club in less than eight hours on build day. The new playground's design is based on drawings provided by students, who attended a Design Day event in January.
Dodge is donating the new playspace in honor of Nowaczyk, who won the Ram Challenge, a real-life, high-energy product attribute demonstration pitting American icons against one another on an obstacle course built in the rough California terrain.
When: Saturday, March 21 -- 8:30 a.m. - Kick off and volunteer deployment -- 11-1 p.m. - Best time to view playground under construction -- 2:30 p.m. - Ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate new play area (Note: all times approximate) Who: -- Los Angeles County Firefighter and Dodge Ram Challenge winner Robert Nowaczyk -- Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon -- CEO/President of the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley LeRoy Chase Where: Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley 11251 Glenoaks Blvd. Pacoima, Calif. 91331
Why: As the winner of the Dodge Ram Challenge, Los Angeles County firefighter Nowaczyk was given the opportunity to donate a community-build playground to a site of his choosing. Nowaczyk selected the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley because the club currently has no outdoor playground equipment for the more than 1,100 children it annually serves.
Founded by Nowaczyk, Fireman's Brew is a Los Angeles-based microbrewery that produces handcrafted microbrewed beer, coffee and root beer sold throughout the greater Los Angeles area at grocery chains and restaurants. Fireman's Brew participates in local community events and donates a portion of the proceeds from every product sold to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
The playspace will be the last of 25 scheduled to be built by KaBOOM!, The Chrysler Foundation and Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealers across the country to provide more than 70,000 children with a great place to play.
The playspace is also one of more than 200 builds KaBOOM! will lead across the country in 2009, in an effort to provide an enjoyable place to play within walking distance of every child in America.
