GM To Display 37 New Models At Shanghai Show

Shanghai, April 2, 2009: (Gasgoo.com) General Motors Corp said Thursday it will display 37 vehicle models at the Shanghai auto show later this month, which will include the world debut of Buick MPV concept.

The Buick MPV is developed independently by the Pan-Asia Technical Automotive Center, the first joint venture research center in the Asia-Pacific area which was jointly built by GM and SAIC in 1997. No other information was revealed on the car.

Five other models, including the new-generation Buick Lacrosse, Buick Regal, Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Cruze WTCC (2009) and Chevrolet Camaro, will make their Asia debuts at the show.

Kevin Wale, president of the GM China Group, said that the auto show lineup demonstrates the company's "long-term commitment to China," despite the troubles that the company faces in its home market.

The U.S. automaker said it will display its full car brands in Shanghai, including Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and Saab, which confirmed the earlier media report that the Opel brand will not be present at the show.

China is a relative bright spot for the company in terms of business growth at present. GM's China sales rose 6 percent to 1.09 million vehicles last year, compared with an 11 percent decline in global sales.
