MORE: Top car technologies you can't have — yet

Washington DC April 28, 2009; The AIADA reported that according to MSNBC, there are some cool auto technological possibilities out there.

Want your car to automatically brake to avoid a crash, fly high over traffic-clogged roads, or get 100 miles per gallon? Too bad, because while all of those things are technically possible, they are impractical for legal or financial reasons, which mean you can't have one anytime soon.

There are cars that can steer themselves, double as boats on the water, and feature split-screen video technology to let the front-seat passenger watch a movie while the car is in motion.

The obstacle to mass production of these vehicles is the combination of technical difficulty and high costs. Time and research should overcome these hurdles, however, and we will see such cars reach mass production in the next five to 10 years.

In addition to cost, flying cars face tougher challenges, including noise and legal issues.
