Emission Solutions Inc. Receives 2010 EPA and CARB Certification for Its 7.6 L Natural Gas Engines

Medium/Heavy-Duty Engines Provide Fleets with a Lower-Cost, Lowest-Emission Alternative to Diesel Technology

McKINNEY, Texas, May 21 -- Emission Solutions Inc. (ESI), a Texas-based manufacturer of natural gas engines for trucks and buses, announced today that it has received its 2010 Certificate of Conformance from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its 2010 California Air Resources Board (CARB) Executive Order for its 7.6 liter natural gas engines. These clean-burning natural gas engines are now available for new medium/heavy-duty trucks and buses, dump trucks, refuse trucks, and as an easily-installed replacement engine for International Truck(R) school buses, dump trucks and refuse trucks utilizing DT466(TM) engines.

The 2010 EPA and CARB emissions certifications establish the engines' eligibility as an approved emission reduction strategy for the EPA Diesel Emission Reduction Program, as well as for the US Department of Energy's Clean Cities grant program. As a result, fleets may take advantage of the new large EPA and US Department of Energy grant programs, part of President Obama's economic stimulus package, to repower their older diesel trucks and buses with ESI's natural gas engines, or to purchase new natural gas vehicles with these engines. The Internal Revenue Service has also issued a new letter affirming the eligibility of the ESI engines for the maximum-available federal tax credit of $32,000/engine.

"Emission Solutions is the first and only medium/heavy duty engine manufacturer to meet the 2010 standards of 0.2 g/bhp-hr oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and 0.01 g/bhp-hr particulate matter without the use of exhaust gas recirculation or selective catalytic reduction," said Jim Moore, ESI's President. "Using only a three-way passive catalyst and our patented technology to achieve 2010 compliance is a huge benefit to fleet operators by eliminating the need for expensive and difficult-to-maintain exhaust aftertreatment," Moore explained. "ESI has once again established itself as the industry leader in offering the cleanest production engines that exceed the stringent 2010 emission requirements and delivering them to the marketplace ahead of the compliance deadline," Moore added.

The newly certified engines provide comparable horsepower, torque and fuel economy to the original diesel-powered vehicles, while reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) by up to 95%, particulate matter by up to 90% and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 25%. The new 7.6 liter engine offerings include horsepower ranges from 175-300hp with torque availability from 460-900 lb-ft.

Additional benefits of the new ESI natural gas engines include:

-- The health benefits of eliminating cancer-causing diesel fumes and particulate matter that are known to increase the incidence of asthma with children, vehicle operators and the general public;

-- A reduction in the cost of vehicle operation. Natural gas, as a domestic fuel, is less expensive and demonstrates less price volatility than diesel, with lower maintenance costs;

-- The ESI natural gas engines are appreciably quieter than the diesel engines they replace; and

-- Natural gas vehicles are safer to operate.
