AAA Chicago: July Monthly Fuel Prices Drop

AURORA, Ill.--Fuel prices have decreased during the last month in Illinois and northern Indiana from its highest levels in 2009. AAA Chicago’s most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased 25 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $2.60 per gallon for the month of July, which is $1.61 lower per gallon than last year.

“Crude oil prices have come down during the past month and are nearly $75 per barrel lower than they were last July when record fuel prices were set,” says Nicole Niemi, AAA Chicago’s spokesperson. “Lower prices at the pump reflect the downward trend of oil prices.”

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $2.46, which is down 37 cents from June and down $1.76 from July 2008.

• In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.76, which is down 22 cents from last month and $1.58 lower than last year’s price-per-gallon.
• In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.67 per gallon, which is an 18-cent decrease from June and $1.57 lower than last year.
• In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.64 per gallon, which is 25 cents lower compared to last month and $1.61 lower than July 2008’s price.
• In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.57 per gallon, which is 29 cents lower than last month and down by $1.64 compared to this time last year.
• In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.65 per gallon, which is 24 cents lower than June’s average and $1.59 lower than July 2008’s price.
• In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.66 per gallon, which is 23 cents lower compared to last month and $1.60 lower compared to last year.
• In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.53 per gallon, a decrease of 25 cents from June and a decrease of $1.54 from last year.
• In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.47 per gallon, which is 29 cents lower than last month and $1.64 lower than last year.
• In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.48 per gallon, which is a 31-cent decrease compared to last month and a $1.62 decrease from July 2008.
• In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.33 per gallon, which is 51 cents lower than last month and $1.80 lower than last year.
• In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.54 per gallon, a decrease of 39 cents from June and a decrease of $1.63 from July 2008.
• In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.39 per gallon, which is a decrease of 47 cents from last month and $1.78 lower than July 2008’s price.
• In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.44 per gallon, a 39-cent decrease from June’s average and a $1.78 decrease from a year ago.
• In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.49 per gallon, which is 34 cents lower than last month and $1.75 lower than last year.
• In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $2.46 per gallon, which is 37 cents lower compared to last month and $1.67 lower compared to last year.
