Car Incentives Skyrocketing; Edmunds.com Lists Deals of the Month

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Incentives on cars and trucks are shooting up as dealer inventory, decimated by Cash for Clunkers, is piling up again, according to Edmunds.com, an online resource for automotive information.

“This year has been a wild ride for automakers, and it’s not over yet,” observed Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell. “No segment is unaffected, though luxury models and trucks are being discounted particularly heavily.”

“Low interest financing and cash rebates dominate the landscape but subsidized lease programs, almost non-existent in the past few years, are increasing,” noted Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Michelle Krebs in her report on AutoObserver.com.

Here are some vehicles currently listed among Edmunds.com’s Deals of the Month, a monthly analysis that looks at nationally available cash rebate, interest-rate and lease incentives as well as the Edmunds.com True Market Value® price:

  • Audi A4 Convertible
  • BMW X5
  • Cadillac Escalade Hybrid
  • Dodge Charger
  • Honda Insight
  • Mazda6
  • Mini Cooper

Currently, at New Cheaper Than Used, Edmunds.com lists 84 vehicles that are discounted so heavily that the new car is less expensive than its one year old counterpart. This list includes trim levels of the following vehicles:

  • Ford F-150
  • Honda Accord
  • Infiniti G37 Coupe
  • Lexus IS 350
  • Mercedes-Benz CLK350
  • Volkswagen Passat
  • Volvo XC70
