MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – November 18, 2009: Australia’s award-winning motorcamper manufacturer Trakka has once again set the benchmark in design and innovation by supplying Wurli-Wurlinjang Aboriginal Health Service in Katherine in the Northern Territory with two custom-built mobile clinics.

The vehicles, funded by the Australian Government’s Office for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health, will be used by Wurli-Wurlinjang to extend its provision of comprehensive health care services into the community for the area’s Indigenous population.

Based on the renowned Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis and Trakka’s proven Trakkaway 770 body, one vehicle will specialise as a General Consultation Unit with the second vehicle operating as a mobile Ear and Eye Clinic. Both vehicles will also perform an important role in delivering Wurli-Wurlinjang’s health preventative and promotional programs directly to clients in their community.

With its 35 years of engineering expertise and reputation for quality, the Trakka image is once again evident in the interior fitout and attention to detail that tailors a vehicle for the task it has to perform.

Both vehicles have been given the same exterior gel-coat finish on the inside as well as vinyl flooring to provide a smooth and clean impervious finish to suit medical use. Each unit fitout includes a sink with a hot and cold pressurised water system with onboard storage of 135-litres of fresh water and a 14-litre electric hot water tank.

The lay-outs of the vehicles cater fully for the needs of the Health Service with a large work surface situated at the rear of the vehicle as well as a desk at the front. Known for its clever utilisation of space, Trakka has included a raft of storage areas in and around the workstation and sink units and a 130 litre fridge.

Differentiating the mobile General Consultation and Ear/Eye clinic vehicles is the examination area at the rear, which in the Ear/Eye clinic is taken up by a specialist Planmeca Dental Chair along with a ZEISS Microscope. The General Consultation vehicle is fitted with a flat examination bed set against the rear side of the clinic.

Both units are kitted out with high definition TV screens for monitoring purposes as well as a 5kW diesel generator, two 100amp/h batteries, a reversing camera and a Power Gear automatic stabilising system. With conditions in the Northern Territory reaching sweltering temperatures at times, Trakka has ensured patients will be met in the most pleasant environment possible with the roof-mounted Dometic air-conditioning unit removing humidity and controlling the interior temperatures.

The vehicles are based on the Mercedes-Benz 515 rear wheel drive Sprinter and are powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 110kW at 3,800rpm and 330Nm of torque between 1,200 and 2,400rpm. Each features a five-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz ergonomics and luxury styling compliment the comfortable and pleasant working area. With the Sprinter’s renowned handling characteristics and ride comfort the mobile clinics will glide along even bumpy roads without any qualms and will keep staff fatigue down to a minimum.

Trakka is Australia’s leading manufacturer of motor camper and special purpose vehicles for work and leisure.
