Leading Role for BMW at First 'Must Attend' Event of Racing and Social Calendar

MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – December 8, 2009: BMW is expanding its suite of racing affiliations, becoming the naming rights sponsor of next year’s BMW Magic Millions Carnival.

Queensland’s richest race day, the $4.6 million Magic Millions meeting on January 9 will host the headline $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic as well as the $100,000 BMW “Gran Turismo” Magic Millions Maiden Plate – 1200m.

The BMW Magic Millions Carnival and Race Day is summer’s premier horse-racing carnival, attracting the who’s who of the thoroughbred industry from Australia and overseas.

BMW will utilise the Carnival to showcase its new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, ahead of the car’s official launch in Australia.

Magic Millions Director, Katie Page-Harvey commented on the event program for 2010: “Magic Millions is a personal passion for each of the owners (Gerry Harvey, John Singleton, Rob Ferguson & Katie Page-Harvey) and we each enjoy a different facet of Magic Millions.     Magic Millions has gained a world class reputation with the consistent supply of champions not only to Australasian racing, but to the racing world. This year’s Australian Champion Racehorse, Scenic Blast is a Magic Millions graduate, so to Phelan Ready (2009 2YO Champion), and Theseo (2009 Middle Distance Champion). The winner of the 2009 Melbourne Cup, Shocking, was bought at Magic Millions in 2007, and seven of the past nine Golden Slipper winners sold at auction were Magic Millions “graduates.”

    Magic Millions is the largest sales incentive race day in the world with the BMW Magic Millions Race Day specifically carrying a prize purse of $4.6 million. With the Magic Millions race day a sell-out every year, the event has become a cornerstone in today’s racing calendar.
