Discount Symbolizes Future Savings on Fuel if Congress Allows Imported Ethanol Tax to Expire

WASHINGTON, May 20, 2010; The following was released today by the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA):

WHAT: Discounting gasoline by 54 cents per gallon on the Tuesday before Memorial Day at two Capitol Hill gas stations

-- Members of the military will receive double the discount in honor of
their service and the Memorial Day holiday
-- Discount offered from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, or until fuel runs out

WHY: To draw attention to a 54 cents per gallon tariff on imported ethanol. The one-day discount will provide Washington area residents with a preview of how Americans across the country could save money at the pump if Congress ends this unfair import tax later this year.

The event will also educate drivers about the benefits of sugarcane ethanol - a clean and affordable renewable fuel that could help the United States cut its dependence on oil from the Middle East. More at www.sweeteralternative.com.

WHO: The Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) is offering the discounted gasoline as an indication of the group's desire to eliminate trade barriers on clean, renewable energy and as a symbolic gesture demonstrating how American's will save money on fuel purchases without the tariff.
