SYDNEY – Aug 3, 2010: In the first half of 2010, strong global sales and the introduction of award winning new models has seen Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker sell 1,764,254 units (domestic and exports contributing 855,140 units, while overseas plants contributed 909,114 units, a +27 percent increase over the same period last year.

Net profit more than doubled to 2.52 trillion won (AUD $2.36 billion) in the first six months of the year from 1.04 trillion won (AUD $973.71 million) for the same period in 2009.

Global sales increased +27.4 percent to18 trillion won (AUD $16.85 billion) from 14.1 trillion won (AUD$13.20 billion) a year earlier, while operating profit rose 93.1 percent to 1.57 trillion won (AUD $1.469 billion).

Much of the success can be attributed to Hyundai’s diversification of its market and product portfolio, combined with strong demand from overseas markets, improved product mix and equity gains from overseas subsidiaries.

Moving forward and to further secure profitability, Hyundai Motor Company will strengthen sales of all-new i45, and ix35, while launching additional new models in the second half of this year including the much anticipated ‘MD’ sedan into the Korean domestic market.

Increased demand in mature markets such as Australia and the U.S. contributed to improved results in the first half, while continued demand from emerging markets boosted the positive growth sales further.
