SYDNEY – Aug 4, 2010: Motoring enthusiasts and their cars from around New South Wales and the ACT will be gathering in Sydney over the August 21-22 weekend for ‘Display Day’ – the 2010 Shannons Eastern Creek Classic, which this year is expected to attract over 1,800 cars and bikes.

Staged by the council of Motor Clubs every August for the past 45 years, ‘Display Day’ in the past has had many homes in Sydney, including Warwick Farm, Canterbury Racecourse and Castle Hill Showgrounds. But for the last 18 years the event has grown in size and stature at Eastern Creek.

The 2010 Shannons Eastern Creek Classic will see a number of marques and clubs celebrating significant anniversaries:

  • 100 years of Alfa Romeo and Peugeot
  • 80 years of the Australian Sporting Car Club
  • 60 years of the Alvis and MG Car Clubs
  • 50 years of the Triumph Sports Owners Association, and
  • 40 years of the Nissan Z series, the Triumph Stag, Citroen SM and GS and the Bolwell Car Club.

As well as static displays by marques and clubs, clubs will also complete laps of the circuit in rolling displays.

While enthusiasts will be kept busy admiring cars, a ‘Kid’s Korner’ with clowns, balloon artists and face painters will be on hand to amuse their children. There are also double-decker bus rides around the famous Eastern Creek circuit for a gold coin donation, with proceeds helping to maintain the Sydney Bus & Truck Museum.

Saturday’s programme includes Trade Displays and a CSCA Supersprint circuit event from 10am, while Sunday will see the main club displays, with an estimate 145 clubs taking part.

Other Sunday features include a Concourse judging event, a military and commercial Vehicle display and displays of historic racing cars.

Public entry to the 2010 Shannons Eastern Creek Classic costs $15, with children Under 12 admitted free. Gates open to the public at 9am and parking is free.
