MILTON KEYNES, UNITED KINGODM – October 5, 2010: Skoda Auto has issued its 2009/2010 Sustainability Report. The document presents all activities of the Czech Republic's largest car manufacturer that involve environmental protection and social responsibility. It explains how the volume of polluting emissions has been reduced across the product range and by how much Škoda has managed to cut energy consumption in its manufacturing operations.

The report also highlights the company's social engagement projects and provides information about the growth of Škoda's subsidiaries in the field of sustainable development. Using this form, Škoda has been informing the public of its achievements once every two years since 2005.

Škoda Auto has made some massive improvements in its car manufacturing operations. Water consumption per car produced has fallen by about 60 per cent since 1999 (from 6.3 litres to just 2.5 litres). Waste water production per car produced has dropped even more, by almost 70 per cent (from 6.2 litres to 2.0 litres). The company has also dramatically reduced the amount of waste per car produced (metals not included) – from 95 kg ten years ago to only 37 kg in 2009.

Škoda Auto BOD Chairman Prof. Winfried Vahland has stressed that sustainable development is one of the company's core focus areas. The best examples of this are the successful GreenLine models, which boast extremely low fuel consumption and CO2 emission figures. With just 109 g of CO2/km, the compact MPV Roomster GreenLine is a leader in its class, and with 4.2 litres/100 km, this car has the lowest fuel consumption in the MPV category.

Škoda's new Yeti GreenLine shows that even SUVs can be economical and environmentally friendly – 119 g of CO2/km is the lowest figure in the SUV segment, and the car's consumption is only 4.6 litres/100 km. Furthermore, the Octavia Green E Line concept presented at the Paris Motor Show gives a clear signal that Škoda Auto's investments in environmentally friendly vehicles are massive.

“Despite all the environmental improvements we have made so far, we are not resting on our laurels. On the contrary – we will carry on heading towards the emission-free future,” said Dr. Vahland.

Produced with environmental protection in mind, the Report is printed exclusively on recycled paper. The Sustainability Report can be downloaded from http://new.skoda-auto.com/company/com/sustainable_development.
