SYDNEY – February 1, 2011: Pirelli Tyres Australia is to contribute $1 from each Pirelli tyre sold throughout Australia to the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Fund. The relief fundraising programme will run from Tuesday, February 1 to Monday, February 28, 2011.

Commenting on the disaster, Alessandro Marchi, Managing Director of Pirelli Tyres Australia said: “This has clearly been an extremely serious natural disaster for Queensland. We share the concern for all those people who have lost homes, livelihoods and possessions and most particularly for those who have lost family members and friends. Community support, together with great courage, is needed to rise above the effects of this devastating event.

Mr Marchi said Pirelli’s social responsibility commitments reach out on a global scale to help people in such disasters. As a part of the Australian community we simply cannot stand by and not contribute to the relief effort.”

The Pirelli Australia flood relief contribution programme is being undertaken through all of the authorised Pirelli dealers throughout the country.

Craig Lowndes, a proud Queenslander and V8 Supercar legend, as well as Pirelli‘s ambassador, will be the face of the fundraising programme through customer information provided at Pirelli dealers. He encouraged all Australians to stand and work together and to contribute to the relief fund. “I know all Australians will want to do their part in helping Queenslanders, he said.”

“It’s a team effort and we need to all work together. The help will be needed not only at present, but in the many months ahead.”

The Pirelli Tyres Australia total contribution is expected to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
