Stunning Stingray At Shannons Sydney Sale

SYDNEY – February 2, 2011: A stunning, award-winning Riverside Red-on-red 1964 Chevrolet Sting Ray coupe is one of the standout vehicles of Shannons first 2011 auction in Sydney on Monday (February 7).

The very collectible left hand drive 300HP, 327-V8 matching numbers C2 model arrived in Australia about three years ago from a private collection in Michigan, USA.

Restored in the mid-1980s it went on to win awards at the famous Bloomington Gold Corvette show.

The Sting Ray’s original factory options include its two-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, power steering, power windows, power brakes and the sought-after and expensive 'Quick take off’ cast alloy wheels.

Included in the sale is a photographic file detailing its restoration, with Shannons expecting it to sell in the $66,000-$74,000 range.

A more modern alternative for Corvette lovers is a 1999-model right hand drive C5 ‘Targa’ Coupe ($56,000-$64,000), powered by Chevrolet’s alloy-block LS1 350-Cid V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.

The car is well known to the Shannons auction team, having been sold by Shannons to the current vendor in 2005. It has travelled an indicated 85,420km.

‘No Reserve’ Euro classics under the hammer
Euro buyers on a budget have an interesting choice of ‘no reserve’ classics at Shannons Sydney Summer Classic Auction on Monday (February 7).

Mercedes-Benz coupe fanciers will be interested in the stylish, bright red with white interior 1970 model W114 series 250CE Coupe, that is expected to sell in the $7,000-$10,000 range.

The car was fully restored in the early 1990s. It has recently been repainted and features an upgraded alternator and heavy-duty suspension.

The car is currently registered in NSW and has an interesting history, being used for promotional filming by a Sydney TV network.

Alfa Romeo enthusiasts have the rare opportunity to purchase a one-owner, Australian-delivered and very original 1974 Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1600 coupe.

Delivered new by Alec Mildren, Shannons believe this ‘always-garaged’ Junior would form a great basis for restoration, as the all-important sills and floors remaining solid behind ageing paint. The Junior’s interior would also benefit from some refurbishment.

The Alfa’s odometer reads only 60,000 miles, which is believed genuine, while its service books show that the car has had regular mechanical maintenance. It also comes with its original owners’ manual and current NSW registration.

The Junior is also being offered for sale with no reserve and is expected to sell in the $8,000-$11,000 range.

There are also two BMWs offered with no reserve in Monday’s auction – a well-presented 1981 BMW 635 CSi automatic Coupe ($8,000-$12,000) and a 1990 318i automatic sedan with less than 126,000km on its odometer ($3,000-$5,000).

Meanwhile for Jaguar enthusiasts there is a well looked-after three-owner, Australian-delivered 1977 XJ6 Series II saloon that is expected to bring $4,000-$7,000 with no reserve.
