SLOUGH, UNITED KINGDOM – February 15, 2011: Abarth Cars is continuing its support of grass roots motorsport with the announcement that it will be a title sponsor of a leading karting championship in 2011.

The karting challenge, which takes place at Teesside Autodrome, will be jointly supported by Abarth Cars UK and SG Petch, the York-based Abarth dealership. It will be known as the SG Petch Abarth 2011 Karting Open Championship.

Abarth will support the series by providing an Assetto Corse 500 race car in which the Championship winner will be offered an official track day test. The motorsport arm of Fiat Group Automobiles UK will also sponsor the end of season prize-giving dinner.

“Abarth and SG Petch are delighted to be involved in this exciting series as it allows us to support grass roots racing – the heart of everything we do,” says Ivan Gibson, head of Abarth UK. “Teesside Autodrome is a wonderful venue which lends itself perfectly to karting and I’m sure we can expect a fine season of racing there.”

Launched in the UK in July 2008, the award-winning Abarth brand has continued to find new fans in the form of enthusiast drivers wishing to express themselves through their choice of car.

The range starts at £14,155 (OTR) for the 500 1.4 T-Jet while the Punto Evo 1.4 MultiAir costs just £16,500 (OTR).
