Two Days Of Thunder At Qld. Raceway
MELBOURNE – June 3, 2011: Group N Touring cars, Trans Am Tribute racers, rare Porsche Museum cars and a Cobra/GT 40 Challenge will all share the spotlights for two days of thunder at Queensland Raceway over the June 25-26 weekend.
Porsche will celebrate 60 years in Australia at the 2011 Shannons Sports & Muscle Car Spectacular by bringing three very special vehicles from the company’s Museum in Stuttgart, Germany – the 1987 Le Mans-winning 962 sports car, the spectacular long-tail Porsche 935 coupe that achieved 366km/h at Le Mans in 1978 and a modern-day Porsche supercar – a mid-engined V10 Carrera GT from 2003.
Eight-time Bathurst winner Jim Richards is Patron of the meeting and all eligible visitors who get a car, bike or home insurance quote from Shannons on the Sunday will go into the draw to win a hot lap at Lakeside with him in his new 320km/h Porsche GT2 RS.
Along with the events for Historic Touring Cars and Trans Am Tribute V8s, there will also be a Porsche feature race sponsored by Porsche Centre Gold Coast.
Amongst the many V8 entrants, Victorian Group N race Fraser Ross will be making the trip to try his luck in the Ex Jim Richards Mustang.
Sprint laps for Muscle Cars, Cobra/GT40s and Porsche are also part of the non-stop track program throughout the weekend.
The Shannons Show & Shine on the Sunday will feature Ford, with two genuine Trans Am Mustang and two mint Shelbys confirmed for display.
Adult entry costs $20 for Saturday and Sunday or $30 for the weekend, with children Under 12 free. Students 13-16 years old and Pensioners $10 each day.
