G.I. Jobs Recognizes Progressive as a Leading Military-Friendly Employer for Third Consecutive Year

Progressive

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OH--November 14, 2011: After eight years in the United States Army, Connie Dingeman transitioned out of the military into the corporate world. For the past 14 years, she has been part of the recruiting team at Progressive® Insurance. Now she uses her experience to recruit military veterans for the car insurance group and enable them to translate their military experiences into civilian job skills.

“Military veterans bring strong skills to the corporate world including adaptability, teamwork, diversity and dedication”

"Military veterans bring strong skills to the corporate world including adaptability, teamwork, diversity and dedication," said Dingeman. She also has advice for military veterans who are currently in the job market. "When applying for jobs, avoid using military acronyms. Instead, explain your experience in civilian terms on your resume."

The percentage of new hires with prior military service, military recruitment programs, and company policies toward National Guard and Reserve service are among the reasons Progressive earned a spot on G.I. Jobs magazines 2012 Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers®. Active-duty Reservists at Progressive receive 100 percent differential pay, meaning the company makes up the difference between the person's regular salary and the amount they earn while on active duty. Progressive also provides medical benefits for active-duty reservists and their families.

Progressive recruits and connects with veterans through the U.S. Department of Defense's Transition Assistance Program, which helps veterans transition from military to civilian life. Progressive also actively recruits on military job boards and job fairs, through online and social media platforms, and in military publications. In September, Progressive hosted a career fair especially for local military candidates and their spouses at its Colorado Springs facility.

Each year, G.I. Jobs ranks companies across the country. Editors compiled the 2012 list from more than 5,000 entrants; only two percent made the list. Only companies with more than $500 million in revenue were eligible to compete.

In addition to this honor, earlier this year, Military Times EDGE named Progressive to its Best for Vets 2011: Employers list and CivilianJobs.com named Progressive to its 2011 Most Valuable Employers for Military.
