LOS ANGELES--October 12, 2012: Waze, the free social traffic app that helped Los Angeles drivers survive Carmageddon, will help them again -- this time with the upcoming traffic from the transport of the Space Shuttle Endeavour from LAX to Exposition Park. With help from the California Science Center, Waze will display the shuttle's location on its map as it moves, and automatically route drivers away from any traffic.

Endeavour will be moved on October 12 and 13 in a 12-mile journey across the cities of Inglewood and Los Angeles. The space shuttle will be transported at 2 mph, causing traffic challenges, road closures and lots of fun for onlookers. The two-day journey of Endeavour is expected to draw viewers from across Southern California. One of the biggest objects ever transported down city streets, Endeavour is five stories tall (58 feet high at the tip of the tail), has a wingspan of 78 feet and weighs 170,000 pounds.
"This will mark the first, last and only time a space shuttle will travel through 12 miles of urban, public streets," California Science Center President Jeffrey Rudolph said. Most importantly, this marks the beginning of Endeavour's ultimate mission of inspiring current and innovators and explorers at the California Science Center."
Now at 28 million drivers, the Waze system is a proven tool to help avoid traffic, especially in Los Angeles. Even Mayor Villaraigosa tweeted to his followers to use Waze during the original Carmageddon. Nominated for "Best LA City App" by the Los Angeles Weekly, Waze helps more than 900,000 Los Angeles drivers get to their destinations as quickly as possible.
