Looking Ahead To 2013: What Next For High MPG Cars?

WASHINGTON, DC: Will new sales records be set in 2013 for the most fuel-efficient vehicles? How much higher will fleet-wide fuel economy go? Will automakers remain on track to meeting the federal 2016 fuel economy standards? Will increased demand for hybrid and electric vehicles result in lower prices for consumers?
These and other questions will be tackled on Wednesday (December 19 th) when industry analyst Alan Baum and Luke Tonachel, senior vehicles analyst from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), outline their expectations for high MPG vehicles in 2013. After a strong year in 2012, the bar for the industry has been set high enough that new achievements will have to be even more dramatic in order to be of note.
