TAMPA, FL--March 4, 2013: The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) kicked off the 2013 National Mobility Awareness Month campaign by donating a $7,500 college scholarship. Jeff Probst, host of his own show, presented the check to DeDe Selivon, a wheelchair bound college student from Orlando, Florida on his talk show. The presentation coincides with NMEDA's campaign to educate seniors, veterans, caregivers, and people with disabilities about wheelchair accessible vehicles and adaptive mobility equipment options available to them to live an active and mobile lifestyle.

The check presentation and announcement of the campaign can be seen on the National Mobility Awareness Month YouTube channel: YouTube

In addition to the scholarship, NMEDA is once again awarding three deserving "Local Heroes" with a wheelchair accessible vehicle tailored to meet their needs through an online contest. Sponsors, Chrysler Automobility, SanTan Honda and Toyota Mobility, are providing the vehicles, which will be customized by NMEDA manufacturers -- BraunAbility and Vantage Mobility International (VMI).

To qualify as a "Local Hero", entrants are encouraged to submit either a written or a video of how they are triumphing over their mobility issues through their academic and career ambitions, as well as their family and local community contributions. Caregivers, friends and family members are also welcome to submit entries. Stories are being accepted at Mobility Awareness Month starting February 25, 2013. Voting begins on March 11, 2013 and closes on May 10, 2013. Winners will be announced the last week of May 2013.
