AAA: Illinois and Indiana Gas Prices Drop in Time for July Fourth Travel

AURORA, IL--July 2, 2013: Gas price averages for Illinois and Indiana are finally dropping after months of sharp price increases. Illinois and Indiana drivers are currently paying on average, $3.75 and $3.42 respectively for a gallon of regular unleaded. This is the lowest prices have been since April 19, 2013.

In June in Illinois, gas prices averaged $4.05, which was up $.06 from May and up $.34 from a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $3.96 in June, which was even from May and up $.31 from June 2012.

"The refinery issues that pushed prices higher this spring have been resolved, and Illinois and Indiana drivers are enjoying some welcome relief just in time for the Fourth of July holiday travel, said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago."

In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.34, which is up $.05 from last month and $.39 higher than last year's price-per-gallon. In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.17 per gallon, which is a $.01 increase from May and up $.37 from last year. In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.11 per gallon, which is even compared to last month and $.33 higher than June 2012's price. In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.14 per gallon, which is $.03 higher than last month and up by $.35 compared to this time last year. In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.13 per gallon, which is $.02 higher than last month's average and $.35 higher than June 2012's price. In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $4.15 per gallon, which is $.03 higher compared to last month and $.41 higher compared to last year. In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.94 per gallon, an increase of $.17 from May and an increase of $.45 from last year. In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.83 per gallon, which is $.11 higher from last month and $.33 higher than last year. In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.90 per gallon, which is up $.09 compared to last month and up $.31 from June 2012. In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.76 per gallon, which is $.01 lower than last month and $.29 higher than last year. In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.95 per gallon, an increase of $.10 from May and $.34 higher than June 2012. In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.86 per gallon, which is $.10 higher from last month and $.30 higher than June 2012's price. In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.97 per gallon, which is event from May's average and a $.32 increase from a year ago. In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.93 per gallon, which is $.02 lower than last month and $.29 higher than last year. In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $3.97 per gallon, which is $.16 higher compared to last month and $.37 higher compared to last year.
