Philadelphia Among Cheapest U.S. Destinations to Rent a Car

PHILADELPHIA--Sept. 17, 2013: Philadelphia is one of the least expensive destinations in the United States to rent a car. That finding is the result of a new survey from CheapCarRental.net. The survey specifically looked at 50 U.S. destinations and compared their car rental rates over this past summer.

The survey's focus was the price car renters had to pay for the cheapest available vehicle during the main travel months of June, July and August 2013. Each destination's respective airport was chosen as the Pick-up and Drop-off location.

At an average price tag of only $19 per day for the most affordable car, Philadelphia ranked 47th out of the 50 locations surveyed. Only three destinations in Florida were even less expensive than Pennsylvania's largest city: Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando.

Where were rental cars most expensive? That honor went to Oregon's capital city, Portland. There, travelers had to pay $86 per rental day, on average, at the Pick-up counter. This figure made car rentals in Portland over 300% more expensive than in Philadelphia. New York City ranked ranked second costliest on the survey. In fact, with a per-day rate of $83, NYC came in only a few dollars cheaper than Portland.

The following table shows the five most expensive and five least expensive U.S. destinations in which to rent a car. The dollar figures shown reflect the average daily rate for the cheapest available rental car in each destination during the period spanning June through August 2013.
