Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum New Audio Tour Phone App

The Simeone Museum now has a mobile phone app that features over four hours of audio about the cars and exhibits in the collection. Dr. Fred Simeone narrates the tour, which includes fascinating details about the history and the significance of each car.

The Simeone Museum mobile app includes 86 stops on the tour, each accompanied by a photo of the car or venue, and a brief text description. The audio length varies for each stop, but averages several minutes.

The mobile app is free and is available for either Andriod phones (Google Store) or iPhones (Apple Store). To find the app, just search for "Simeone Museum."

The app and content takes about 120 mb of space. It should take about 3-5 minutes to download with a 4G network.

In other recent Simeone Museum news, the late-September Demo Days event was appropriately titled “What happened to Ferrari Sports Car Racing?”. It brought out the biggest crowd to date estimated at nearly 600 enthusiasts, young and old, male and female, and some of whom actually have seen these cars compete.

Where else but at the Simeone can you get up close and also see and hear these iconic cars being driven. The cars demonstrated were a 1954 Ferrari 375 MM, 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, and the 1966 Ferrari 365 Speciale.

Between 1949 and 1965, no other make dominated sports car road racing like Ferrari. They won a record nine Le Mans races in this period, including six straight, and then never won another. Le Mans is the Olympics of sports car racing and these Ferraris delighted the crowd.

The Simeone Automotive Museum in Philadelphia is one of the greatest collections of racing sports cars in the world. Assembled over a span of 50 years by renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Frederick Simeone, the Museum contains over 60 of the rarest racing cars ever built.

The Simeone Automotive Museum was selected as the Museum of the Year by the International Historic Motoring Awards.

Take note that three-time Le Mans winner Hurley Haywood will receive the 2013 Spirit of Competition Award on Wednesday, November 20th at a gala fundraising dinner at the Simeone Museum. The award is given annually to a person who exemplifies the "spirit of competition."
