WASHINGTON--Nov. 5, 2013: Mobile apps continue to change the way people work, play and do business. From online banking to buying movie tickets to paying for street parking, apps are increasingly becoming more intertwined in every aspect of our daily lives.

“Offering policyholders digital ID cards on the GEICO App was a logical next step for us”

Never one to miss out on a good thing, GEICO was one of the first insurance carriers to launch its mobile app and began offering policyholders digital access to their policy information.

“Offering policyholders digital ID cards on the GEICO App was a logical next step for us,” said Peter Meoli, GEICO director of mobile development. “The paper ID cards always seem to be out of date when you need it and are easily damaged in your wallet or car’s glove box. GEICO customers can access proof of their auto policy on their smartphones at any time of the day or night.”

The GEICO App provides policyholders with immediate access to current insurance information and solves the old issue of lost and outdated insurance cards. The app reminds customers via push notification when their policy renews and automatically updates the new digital ID card on their smartphone the next time they check in.

And what if you are stuck in a remote area with spotty cellphone service? Meoli points out that the GEICO App saves a copy of your digital ID card to your smartphone in a secure manner and offers an emergency roadside assistance feature. He also says to remember to keep your smartphone battery charged at all times.

And if you are not ready to go digital, Meoli notes that a traditional paper ID card is available by request or smartphone. “Policyholders now have the option to print, email and fax their insurance card from a smartphone.” For more information on GEICO’s digital ID cards, please visit GEICO.
