SAP and Partners Seek Guinness World Record for the Longest Electric Vehicle Parade

WALLDORF, GGERMANY -- Sept. 12, 2014: SAP SE and partners have joined forces to attempt the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSŪ title for the largest parade of electric vehicles. The current record stands at 481. Residents from across Silicon Valley with vehicles powered 100 percent by electric batteries will drive together in the city of Cupertino on Saturday, September 20. This parade will take place during National Drive Electric Week, held across U.S. cities to raise awareness of the benefits of electric vehicles.

The parade will be the 42nd annual electric vehicle rally in Silicon Valley and is being sponsored by SAP, Nissan, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Schneider Electric and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. The Silicon Valley chapter of the Electric Auto Association and SFBayLEAFs, an association of local residents who drive the electric Nissan LEAF, are working with SAP and other leading Silicon Valley companies to enlist participants to help set a new world record.

To participate, drivers must register online and arrive at 7:00 a.m. on parade day, at the address below. Participants will be entered into a raffle draw to win home electric chargers for their vehicles.

The SAP Palo Alto campus was one of the first Silicon Valley companies to install electric vehicle charging stations. The company also recently announced plans to increase electric vehicles in its car fleet to 20 percent by 2020.

For SAP, encouraging more sustainable behavior on the part of employees and in local communities has dual benefits. It contributes to helping reach the company's goal of cutting its carbon footprint to approximately half from the emission figures in 2007. These practices also strengthen SAP's standing as an employer of choice around the world.
