221,558 Cadillac XTS and Chevy Impala Sedans Are Recalled Over Fire Risk

recall

DETROIT -- Sept. 21, 2014; General Motors is recalling 221,558 Cadillac XTS, from the model years 2013-15 and Chevrolet Impala sedans from the model years 2013-15, because the brake pads can stay partially engaged even when they aren't needed, increasing the risk of a fire.

GM said the electronic parking brake arm that applies pressure to the back of the brake pads might not fully retract after use. If the brake pads stay partially engaged with the rotor, excessive brake heat may result in a fire.

Although GM has reported that no accidents or injuries related to the defect have been reported, it is taking the precautionary measure of issuing the recall. Owners of the vehicles will receive notification about the recall and instructions for getting their cars fixed.
