On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, my van's fuel tank was just about empty. So I went to fill it up. On one corner there is a Chevron station selling regular E10 at $4.19, and E85 at $2.59. Diagonally across the street, there is an ARCO station selling regular E10 at $3.89. They don't sell E85.

Now, because I don't have an uncle that works for Chevron, nor do I have any special allegiance to Chevron, if I wanted only regular E10, I would have gone to the ARCO station to save 30 cents per gallon.

But why would I want to save a measly 30 cents per gallon, when I could save a whopping $1.30 per gallon by buying E85?

Naturally, I made the smart move. I pulled into the Chevron station and pumped in 17 gallons of much cleaner, better-smelling E85 (made from ethanol that comes 100% from our domestic farmers).

I saved a bit more than $22 on the tank full of fuel compared to what the E10 would have cost at ARCO. Better yet, if I did have some kind of weird reason to buy the E10 at Chevron, I would have saved $1.60 per gallon (more than $27), WOW!

You can safely and efficiently use E85 in ANY internal combustion engine vehicle, regardless of whether it's flex-fuel or not. If you don't want to fill your entire tank with E85, just use 7, 8, 9, or 10 gallons and fill the rest of the way on E10. You'll still save $$$. If you buy 10 gallons and save $1.30 on each gallon, that's THIRTEEN SMACKEROONIES. Do that 3 or 4 times a month and you'll save half a C Note. That'll still buy a pretty good dinner for you and the Mrs. or Mr.

Don't be the family chump, be a family champ!
