GM Recalls Trucks for Safety Belt Problems
22 August 1997
General Motors is conducting a voluntary safety recall of 475,000 trucks. Included in the recall are Chevrolet S-10 and GMC Sonoma extended cab pickups equipped with 60/40 front bench seats from model years 1994-97; and Chevrolet, GMC extended cab pickups, and two door Blazer and GMC Jimmy Sports Utilities equipped with manual locking recliner front bucket seats, all from model years 1996-97.GM says the safety belt webbing in these vehicles may seperate in a crash if the dynamics and loading on the seat belt are similar to a 30 mile-per-hour sled test. In the event of this seperation, an occupant of this seat may be exposed to greater risk of injury.
Customers will be notified by mail to take their vehicles to dealers for repairs.
